Our Mission
Zero Theater was established in 2023 by a group of professional filmmakers, theater artists, and young individuals actively engaged in various fields in Boston. As a nonprofit theater company, we are committed to exploring the possibilities of theatrical creation in today's era and fostering a new generation of Chinese artists to promote cross-cultural exchange. We aim to connect the diaspora of Chinese communities overseas through the medium of theater, breaking the boundaries of traditional theatrical concepts, and collectively imagining a new community that embraces and accepts diverse cultures and life experiences.
零剧厂成立于2023年，由专业电影戏剧人及活跃在波士顿各领域的年轻人共同建立。作为非营利性戏剧公司，我们致力于探索戏剧创作在当今时代的可能性，为推动跨文化交流培养新生代华人艺术家。我们期望能以剧场艺术联结漂泊于海外的华人群体，打破传统戏剧概念的边界，共同想象一个拥抱并接纳不同文化及生活经历的新社群。
Why Zero
Zero is a magical number. It is neither positive nor negative; its absolute value is itself, and its opposite is also itself. It can represent the finite space contained within it, or the boundless universe beyond it. It can start from anywhere and have no end; it is nothing yet complete.
We chose "Zero" as our theater's name, aiming to create a safe and open space for the Chinese community in Boston. Here, individuals dare to negate themselves, abandon their "cultural attributes," break free from stereotypes, and find new perspectives in a multicultural environment. Most importantly, everyone connected with us can redefine "Zero" in their own way.
At Zero Theater, we cherish every voice, interpretation, and form of expression. We strive to ensure that every member who joins us feels a sense of belonging, explores their inner selves, unleashes their nature, and discovers themselves while reexamining the minutiae of life.
